Were Having a Great Cruise!!

AT SEA

Well, here we go again, cruising off to parts unknown for some COTV-ers like the Hellmans, Lokkens and Webers and more familiar to others like the Finches, Watsons and Glenores. There are six couples, joined by Jay and Jeanette, friends of the Finches and Watsons, and Becky, a long-time friend of the Watsons.

We all arrived separately and boarded at our leisure. On the last two COTV cruises, we had been on the same ship, the Ruby Princess, but this time we were on the Star Princess so we took some time to walk around and begin to familiarize ourselves with the different lay-out and most importantly, the location of restaurants, bars, coffee and meeting places. For those on early , lunch was also a must.

By departure time. some of us were still hoping to see delivery of our bags. Jim and Susan had only their carry-ons and Daryl looked to be wearing the same clothes she arrived in for 12 days. Fortunately, the crew found those bags about 5:15pm so we were all relieved. We left port, sailing by the Crystal Princess whose crew “saved the wave” for us and then by the Iowa itself.

Some of us met for drinks in the Wheelhouse Bar, while the Finches, Watsons and friends had their cocktail hour in the Finches’ cabin. Then we all headed out on our own to find dinner or entertainment.

The second day started with a great sunrise and ended with another group meet to discuss the day before heading our to dinner wherever we chose. Karen was able to give out her final “goody bags” to the Finches, Watsons, et al. She had provided us with “survival gear” including food and hand warmers, kleenex and snacks.

The third day started with an even better sunrise, followed by coffee and conversation. In the Piazza there is always something going on, like the watermelon carving exhibition. Wow! There have also been many pods of dolphins swimming alongside the ship to marvel over.

Tonight was the first of two formal dress dinners so don’t be surprised that everyone looks a little more dressed up than usual. We met for drinks as always and then went our separate ways to various dining venues for dinner. The Finches and Lokkens went to Portofino and the Watsons and friends to Capri. The Glenores, Hellmans and Webers made a short trip next door to Sabatini’s, which we expected was a spaghetti and meatballs type of Italian restaurant but found instead to be a very creative multiple course Italian dinner. We tried a variety of dishes and plan to go back in a week to make more menu choices.
