Richie’s Real American Diner
Amazingly, in the midst of an extended heat wave, we were greeted by heavy clouds and even rain for some. According to Harry Finch, it depended at what altitude you lived. On his hill, there was no rain. Actually, there was no rain in Canyon Lake, either, but plenty on the freeway going south for those of us who live in the regions north of Temecula.
We have not been to Richie’s Diner as a group for some time, although we used to have Ice Cream Socials there in August for the 25 cent root beer floats a few years back. Jamie, one of the waitresses at Richie’s, remembers us from those days. We were again seated outside on the patio and early on had the overhead fans turned off because it was actually cool with the clouds. As the group warmed up, the fans came back on.
We had a good turn-out with over 40 in attendance, including Harry and Sharon Finch’s grandson, Adam, and our newest members, Terry and Jan Munn who joined at the July General Meeting. Bill Stedfield brought along one of his friends, but Chuck Sherman didn’t have either of his daughters with him. Larry and Joan Thackwell were the first on-site and then the rest of the group started to arrive, in true COTV fashion, ahead of the planned meeting time.
As most of the plates were emptying of breakfast, we celebrated a birthday for a special member, Marilyn Glenore, with a card and cake, which we made her cut herself. It is true COTV spirit to spend your birthday at a Club function and Marilyn and Doug (who was absent) have always been the first to welcome everyone and to show the true meaning of Save the Wave.
Thanks as always to Carol and Marilyn for arranging these opportunities to chat and eat together. Long may they reign!
